INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES INTERNATIONAL BRIDGES TO JUSTICE

International Bridges to Justice (India) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to ensuring the basic legal rights of ordinary citizens in developing and transition countries. IBJ in India works to guarantee all citizens the right to competent legal representation, the right to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment and the right to a fair trial.

We accept interns throughout the year and welcome applications  from students or recent graduates of law and social sciences. Kindly note that internships at IBJ India are unpaid.

We ask that interns commit to working with us for a minimum of 3 months. Currently we have a vacancy from 01st October 2014 or earlier. Internship details: 2014
We are looking for suitable candidates to help with the management of our Duty Lawyers Project running in New Delhi’s prisons. The work involves maintaining a database of case studies and reports, facilitating communication with the lawyers and the project team, organizing data for impact assessment, and supporting the team in organizing outreach and training events. As an intern you will also participate in the other events, workshops and trainings that we conduct in various areas in India.

This work includes writing reports and maintaining the administration of the office on a day-to-day basis.
Skills needed:- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of academic or professional experience in law or social sciences- Commitment to the cause of human rights and Rule of Law, especially its domestic implementation

– Excellent writing and editing skills
– Experience in organizing events such as panel discussions and training workshops
– Good IT and communication skills
– Proficiency in English – Good interpersonal skills
– Ability to take initiative and be self- motivated

Skills desired:
– Additional language reading and writing skills is an advantage (Hindi, Bengali, Tamil), but no a requirement
– Practical knowledge of domestic application of domestic fair trial standards (knowledge of criminal law and the Indian justice system is highly desirable)
– Experience in legal research, particularly drafting of case briefs and summaries
