Supreme Court has directed all the Tobacco firms to implement the Central Rule i.e. Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Amendment Rules mandating 85% pictorial warning on the packets of all tobacco products.
The court said the Tobacco Industry should not violate the rule as of today. The court further directed the matter to be heard by the Karnartaka High Court from where an appeal was filed before the Supreme Court. The court said that matter must be held afresh and must be decided within 6 weeks. The Supreme Court also disallowed the Stay’s that were granted by the lower courts against the implementation of the rules.
