THE INSTITUTION
The Indian Institution of Technical Arbitrators (IITArb.) is an All-India, non-profit professional body of Engineers and Architects, devoted to the popularization of Arbitration as a speedy and cost effective method for resolution of commercial and contractual disputes, providing training facilities to practising and aspiring Arbitrators and offer Institutional Arbitration.
Registered under Societies Registration Act, the Institution has its Head Quarters at Chennai with State Centres at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata and local Centre at Madurai.
In furtherance of its objectives the Institution is organizing a 2-day International Conference on “Challenges in Domestic and International Arbitration” at Chennai. The major objective of the Conference is to offer Arbitration related professionals across the nations to share their experience, expertise knowledge skills and to provide updates on the contemporary status of various aspects in the arena of Domestic and International Arbitration. With alround development taking place in India, major projects, particularly infrastructure projects and many mega projects are being implemented in different parts of the country. In spite of one’s best efforts to avoid them, disputes cannot be avoided altogether in a major contract. In orderly to complete projects avoiding cost or time overrun, suitable mechanism should be in place to resolve disputes as and when they arise. The amended Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996 has raised much hope which promises to be effective tool for speedy and cost effective dispute resolution besides facilitating implementation of foreign awards. Thisaugurswell forraising the level of ease of doing businessin the Country thus paving way for attracting more Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). India, where a large number of projects by MNC’s are underway, has the potential of becoming the Hub of International Arbitration. The hurdles if any in this context have to be indentified and removed. The Conference is organised to address these problems, besides updating knowledge on the subject and hone the skills of practising and aspiring Arbitrators.
