About the Centre for Regulatory Studies, Governance and Public Policy
The Centre for Regulatory Studies, Governance and Public Policy (CRSGPP) at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata is established in July 2015 with the vision of becoming a centre of excellence in research in the field of law, public policy and governance. CRSGPP has been successful under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education (University Branch), Government of West Bengal to promote interdisciplinary research. The Centre encourages original interdisciplinary research on the dynamics of law and society, engages in public debates and academic discussions in social sciences and law and intends to assist law and policy makers in the preparation and critical evaluation of legislation and policies pertaining to communities and groups, including the socially excluded ones. The Centre recently completed two research projects and submitted reports titled ‘Role of Executive Magistrates in District Administration of West Bengal’ and ‘Trend Analysis of Right to Information Act in Gram Panchayats and Panchayat Samitis’ to the Government of West Bengal.
About the Workshop
The workshop intends to find the inter-relationship among research, public policy and law. This further will be detailing the impact of research on formulation and implementation of public policy and legal enactments. There may be presumptions that a sound research design will ensure advanced policy making through relevant findings or policy making is based on rational research findings. Ironically the reality is not as the presumptions are. It is evident that most of the times research designs had no relevance to policy making or made no force for manipulating variables associated to research. The inter-relationship is often weak or burdened.
Recognizing these implications, the CRSGPP is organizing a two-day National Colloquium on Legal Research on February 17-18, 2017. The colloquium will provide a forum for M.Phil and PhD students enrolled in various Universities. This workshop will provide a exclusive platform for intensive discussions on a variety of facets of research and methodology with renowned academicians. The primary goal of the workshop is to enable the participants to revisit their research designs with specific inputs. The workshop further intends to explain the researchers with emerging drifts in policy research and methodology.
It is open to academicians and researchers perusing their M.Phil & Ph.D Studies in law and social sciences.
