Certificate Course on Law and Society (21-23 July, 2017)
About the course:
The course emphasizes the relationship between the internal logic of legal devices and economic, political and social processes. Emphasis is placed upon developing a perspective which views law as a practical resource, a mechanism for handling the widest range of unspecified social issues, problems, and conflicts, and at the same time, as a set of shared representations and aspirations. The students will learn to examine the role of the legal system and specific legal issues from the perspectives of the social sciences and humanities. A set of topics has been selected to develop understanding of the situational and systemic demands within which actors in the legal system operate and perform their roles; at the same time, we will try to discover systematic patterns in the uses and consequences of law.
• To study the interface of law and the various other social institutions. • To learn the role of the legal system from the various perspectives. • To learn the systematic patterns in the use and consequences of law.
Mr. Saurabh Anand, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Director, Centre for Law and Society, Gujarat National Law University, has ten years of teaching experience in National Law University and other universities of India.
Methodology of Course: • Lectures • Audio- Visual Methods • Field Work • Movies and Group Discussions (reading notes will be provided from time to time) • Case Analysis
Reading / Study Material: • Reading / Study material (Consisting of articles, reports and case laws) will be provided to every participant after registration.
Evaluation Method: The evaluation will be in the form of : Objective Test (Multiple Choice Questions)
Who Can Participate: • Advocates/ Academicians • Legal personnel/ Counsels and Legal Advisors. • Students (pursuing full time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Law / Social Science/ or any related field are eligible to register for this course)
