WORKSHOP ON GLOBAL STUDIES

6 – 7 March 2018 Ho Chi Minh Conference Room, AIS

MMAJ ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL STUDIES JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA

CALL FOR REGISTRATION!

The purpose of this workshop is to have a structured discussion on the emergence of a new academic field called ‘Global Studies.’ It is a transdisciplinary field of study that emerged in the 1990s. Many major Universities in the world have instituted degree courses in Global Studies. University of California (Santa Barbara), University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Rutgers University (New Jersey), RMIT University (Melbourne), Sophia University (Tokyo) are some of the universities offering such courses. Many of the programmes at these universities are called the ‘Global and International Studies’ programmes. When we think of the disciplinarity of Global Studies, the first question that comes to mind is in what ways is it different from International Studies? What is the genealogy of this new academic field? It would be important to understand in what ways it is distinct from International Relations or how the ideas within International Relations may be helping shape this new academic field.
