About the Conference:
Prevention Of Crime And Control Strategies In Contemperory World &Way Forward:
Crime Prevention is a measure taken before a criminal or delinquent acts. Both prevention and control should be viewed as subcategories of society’s attitude and action against crime and delinquency. Prevention of crime is basically the primary objective of police in reality, yet they seem to be drifted away, striving to achieve this goal and visualize the law enforcement and maintaining law and order as their main objective. Spending exorbitant amount on prisons, courts and corrections have failed to curb crime.
Crime prevention promises to be more effective in reducing the volume of crime and in minimizing the burden of crime control programme. Crime control measures are attractive to those interest groups which place high priority on safeguarding the community against dangerous criminals. The crime control ideology is extended to crime prevention, in an attempt to stop criminality or delinquency and also to anticipate future offences. With regard to government’s commitment to crime control and prevention in India one needs to refer to social defense schemes as per the Constitution of India. Law enforcement and crime control are state responsibilities.
The severe punitive laws recently passed in the areas of drug trafficking and so called sexual psychopathy are examples of eruption of crimes. Criminologists have suggested two methods of preventing crimes. One method aims at reducing the amount of repeated crime, the other at forestalling the occurrence of first crimes. The overall prevention and control crime in the society depends on both the methods of reformation and method of prevention.
