The Western Regional Consultation For Strengthening of Legal And Clinics In India On 6th February, 2019; Organised by V.M. Salgaocar College of law, Goa
CONCEPT NOTE:
The Indian Constitutional Directive under Article 39A mandates the State to ensure equal opportunities for securing justice to those who are not economically sound by providing free legal aid. Hence, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted to provide free legal aid to the weaker sections of the society. In line with its mission, NALSA is duty bound to promote and strengthen the Clinical Legal Education in India in consultation with the Bar Council of India. Synched with the mission of NALSA, the Bar Council of India Rules, 2008 imposes a responsibility on every Law School in India to establish and run a Legal Aid Clinic. In order to achieve the objective of Clinical Legal Education to impart lawyering skills amongst students and to attain social justice, there is a need that the Law Schools in India are oriented, trained and empowered to successfully run Legal Aid Clinics which is the best way to bridge the gap between the law in books and the law in practice.
