CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS: Young Adult Sexuality in the Digital Age


This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical research findings in the intersection of technology and sexuality for emergent adults. It will be written for professionals who want to improve their understanding of the combination of technology and sexual decision making for young adults, examining the role of technology in sexual identity formation, sexual communication, relationship formation and dissolution, and sexual learning and online sexual communities and activism.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Technology use among young adults
  • Online Sexual Communities (“incels,” “Aces,” “virtuous pedophiles,” or LGBTQA communities)
  • Sexual Knowledge gleaned via digital means
  • Sexual Health information shared via the internet
  • Pornography creation
  • Pornography consumption
  • “Revenge Porn”
  • Sexting
  • The role of technology in long distance relationships
  • Online dating use
  • Sexual Communication via social media sites
  • Internet based sex work
  • Online sexual activism
  • Internet mediated casual sex or hookups
  • Internet based “slut-shaming”
  • Relationship dissolution via the Internet
  • Sexual technology
  • Views of digital forms of sexual communication
  • Sexual decision making within hookup culture

Important Dates

  • August 24, 2019: Proposal Submission Deadline
  • August 31, 2019: Notification of Acceptance
  • October 16, 2019: Full Chapter Submission
  • November 30, 2019: Review Results Returned
  • January 20, 2020: Final Acceptance Notification
  • January 31, 2020: Final Chapter Submission
