About the Conference

Transdisciplinary studies are a reflection of the changing patterns of knowledge production. Ubiquity of transdisciplinary approach is indicative of an important intellectual shift and it represents cognitivity. To understand and formulate better laws at present and in future, a holistic approach in acquainting with other disciplines other than law becomes indispensible. Transdisciplinary concepts have become necessary because differentiation and specialization of

knowledge in discrete categories have become a law of being in the 21st century. It is time we expand our horizon beyond reductive views of the law and identify and resonate its significance in other disciplines. Legal studies must acknowledge transformation of ideas and genres both within their own discipline and beyond its borders. Transdisciplinary approach promotes the capacity to integrate knowledge and modes of thinking drawn from two or more disciplines to produce a cognitive advancement.

This international transdisciplinary conference is the 3rd edition to the previous successful international transdisciplinary conferences organised in August 2017 and August 2018.

Main Theme of the Conference

Law must keep pace with innovations and advancements in other disciplines to formulate effective legal policies. Insights from other disciplines provide an opportunity to get beyond the technical and circumscribed study of legal rules, and to look at law as part of the broader civilization. Innovation is a key source for attaining and sustaining competitive advantage in the present era. Innovation culture is a key factor in enhancing and sustaining the competitive advantage of an organisation. Innovation culture comprises all those set of circumstances and conditions which encourage and support innovation as well as creativity. Innovation culture has to deal with the more and more global shape of the environment, the need for fast life cycle innovations, and the interdependence of research and related institutions.

This transdisciplinary conference is an initiative to provide a cognitive platform for confluence of members of Academia, Scholars, Advocates and Administrators from diverse disciplines in which transdisciplinary minds will engage on the path towards the integration of disciplinary ideas and suggestions for formulating ideal legal policies suited to the contemporary and future needs. The outcome of the conference is expected to establish concrescence.

Objectives of the Conference

  •   To understand the philosophy and deep meaning of the theme of the conference.
  •   To highlight the significance of innovation in various disciplines.
  •   To embellish the understanding of the academicians, researchers, students and scholarsin-depth understanding and philosophical transdisciplinary contribution towards the

    knowledge building.

  •   To assess the impact of innovations in pandemic and transdisciplinary dynamics. The above objectives are sought to be achieved by having panel deliberations of eminent scholars from academia and discussions followed by paper presentations.

CALL FOR PAPERS : Journal of the Legal Writing Institute : SUBMIT BY Sept. 2, 2019.

CALL FOR PAPERS : Journal of the Legal Writing Institute : SUBMIT BY Sept. 2, 2019.

The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute issues a call for essays on the topic of professional status issues for legal writing faculty. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 2, 2019.

The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute invites you to submit an essay to be considered for publication in its upcoming Volume 24. We welcome essay submissions on the topic of professional status issues for legal writing faculty. We encourage you to think about the topic broadly, considering the following questions:

  • What does “improved status” mean? We are especially seeking essays that go beyond the topic of tenure status to address other aspects of professional status, such as long-term contracts, pay, voting rights, benefits, sabbaticals, teaching of other courses, class size, relationships with other faculty, opportunities for professional writing, opportunities to attend conferences, opportunities to present research at faculty meetings or seminars, relationships with students, relationships with law school administration, opportunities to serve in law school administration, etc.
  • How can legal writing faculty help each other improve our professional status and experience? More specific topics that could be discussed include mentoring each other, collaborating on research and writing articles, co-presenting at conferences, giving each other feedback on article drafts, writing recommendation letters for each other, supporting each other for tenure or long-term contact processes, etc.
  • How do our interests as faculty in improving our status align with students’ interests?
  • What happens when an individual’s interests do not align with programmatic interests?

Essays should continue the Journal’s mission, which is to provide a forum for the publication of scholarly works on the theory, substance, and pedagogy of legal writing. Essays may be scholarly either because they fully prove a thesis with relevant support or because they are part of a larger, coordinated section of related essays that build on each other toward a shared thesis. Essays should not feel like an underdeveloped article. The form an author chooses — essay or article — should be driven by the thesis and its necessary proof. An essay is typically shorter, less formal, and more personal than an article. Essays typically focus on an unusual experience in, or insight into, the field, or careful analysis of a new topic; they often demonstrate a deft hand with humor or a lovely way with words. We envision essays ranging in length from 500 to 3,000 words, but the Board will consider essays of any length.

Please submit your essay for consideration by email no later than Monday, September 2, to the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Lindsey Gustafson (lpgustafson@ualr.edu). Please contact Elizabeth Inglehart (e-inglehart@law.northwestern.edu) or Liz Frost (efrost@uoregon.edu) with questions or concerns. We look forward to reviewing your submissions.

About Dehradun Law Review

Dehradun Law Review, a law journal of Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University an offshoot of Uttaranchal University, is a sincere platonic endeavor to explore new horizons of Legal Knowledge. Retrospectively, our intellectual journey which began in 2002 with the establishment of Law College Dehradun reached its practical zenith with the ultimate formation of Uttaranchal University constituted with the merger of Law College Dehradun and its sister concerns UIT and UIM vide the Uttaranchal University Act, 2012 passed by the legislative assembly of Uttarakhand. Hence the journal appears to be an exquisite example of academic symphony with the evolution of Uttaranchal University both as a concept and concrete reality.

The dynamics of socio-legal, political and economic changes taking place in the global scenario has brought symmetric changes in the hitherto existing legal paradigms. As a natural sub-theorem, it has led to new scholastic inducements for in depth analysis in the sphere of law. Matching the pace, our journal ‘Dehradun Law Review’ strenuously endeavors to assimilate changing legal perspectives both in native and global context and intends to impel intellectual fraternity to address some of the pressing legal issues which bother the civil society. Beginning from a wall and web-journal, we have published the sixth volume of the journal which is the testimony of our principled effort.

The journal received the ISSN number in 2011 which contained the lead presentation by Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. R. Laxmanan, the then Chairman of Law Commission of India. The journal ‘Dehradun Law Review’ further added feathers to its cap when its fifth and sixth volumes were released by the then Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand Dr. Aziz Quereshi and the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Mr. Harish Rawat respectively. It has received appreciation from across the legal spectrum of the country and abroad. Legal luminaries and intellectuals from reputed national and international universities have contributed articles to the journal providing valuable insights into various legal issues in the contemporary scenario. JOB POST AT MICROSOFT: Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA), Product Development Attorney

JOB POST AT MICROSOFT: Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA), Product Development Attorney

The Microsoft India Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Department has an immediate opening for a dynamic, motivated and inquisitive senior attorney to lead the frontline support to our engineering teams that are part of the India Development Center (IDC) based in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. These engineers are doing innovative work incorporating artificial intelligence into services, applications and core infrastructure of our products. If you want to lead the legal support of the next generation of these technologies infused with data and artificial intelligence in India by helping develop, launch, and manage the same, this is the role for you. Come join us!

Position Profile:

Position:  Product Development Attorney

Location:  Hyderabad

Reporting to:   Commercial and Developer Team Legal Lead for India

Responsibilities:

  • Enable our Engineering Businesses to Grow with AI. Our engineering teams are focusing on helping our internal data scientists and external customers take advantage of massive changes in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and applying machine learning techniques to data. This role will lead the frontline support for various early stage groups building the next amazing technologies our engineers dream up and our data scientists bring to life. The role will help ensure that our new AI engineering services, applications and core infrastructure are built in a legally compliant way, and that our first-party AI and machine learning efforts are done in ways that respect user privacy and customer commitments.
  • Enable Engineering Businesses to Innovate for India and Emerging Markets. Some of the engineering clients are tasked with conceptualizing and developing mobile-only productivity for emerging markets. Another team builds Indian language speech recognition, text to speech capabilities, and neural machine translation models for Indian languages, and has developed “Ruuh,” a desi chatbot on Facebook. These are only a couple of examples of the innovation being driven out of the IDC that this lawyer will support.
  • Provide top notch legal advice. The role will expose you to a wide range of issues and allow you to drive, lead, work and collaborate with various teams, such as engineering and product development, privacy, security, compliance, marketing, ethics, public relations, finance, business development, product management and other legal colleagues. This role will require you to engage and collaborate with CELA product support teams/lawyers at Redmond and various other jurisdictions which have engineering teams, enabling you to learn, equip and get the necessary support.
  • Support need-based, key Disputes and Litigation for these Engineering Groups. Microsoft has six legal entities based in India and has the largest number of engineers and developers for Microsoft outside of the United States. This role will have an additional accountability for managing contentious legal matters for the engineering groups, supported by a set of outside counsels/law firms.
  • Be a great teammate. We’re looking for a great collaborator who embraces a growth mindset and supports a positive and diverse team culture that values diversity, inclusiveness, listening, creativity, humility, humor, candor, trust, and having fun while working hard. You should learn from both successes and failures and find ways to help your business clients and the CELA India team succeed overall.

Qualifications

  • Intense curiosity. The technologies we deal with—artificial intelligence, search, machine learning, and a range of cloud-based applications and services—change rapidly. Our business and engineering teams are at the cutting edge of critical issues like privacy, intellectual property, ethics, product liability, compliance and regulatory matters. No single person knows (or can know!) all of these topics, so constant curiosity and keenness to learn is a must. You’ll be asked to learn about the legal and business issues impacting these teams and support our related policy, public relations, regulatory affairs, and government affairs teams, as well as our international legal colleagues who are on the front line of these issues worldwide.
  • Passion for technology. If you love diving deep into new businesses, identifying novel ways technology can positively impact society, or breaking down the elements of machine learning, this role is for you. You don’t need an undergraduate engineering degree to do well—we learn everyday about the latest relevant technology while advising the business and engineering teams.
  • Legal creativity & innovation. This is an area of practice where long-standing precedents often do not exist, in other words, there is no playbook to address the business requirements, and lawyers are constantly challenged to apply legal principles to new scenarios. You’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the company and our outside counsel to develop best practices and solutions to thorny issues in areas like privacy or new business models. Learning the industry and appreciating the broader ecosystem is an important part of this role.
  • Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
  • Work experience. Successful candidates will have at least fifteen years’ experience with at least one or a selection of the following: product counseling, intellectual property (e.g., copyright), litigation, privacy issues (e.g., data usage, GDPR), tech transactions (e.g., IP licenses), and/or complex commercial agreements (e.g., partnerships or distribution agreements). Having experience in some of the following areas will be valuable: legal risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, policy support, and/or related issues. We welcome the diversity of thought and perspectives your prior legal and non-legal experiences will bring to this role. Prior work in-house or as outside counsel to enterprise online services is a bonus, but is not required. Prior work in a startup business environment, working with complex technologies especially artificial intelligence, or supporting the development and launch of cloud technologies is a major plus. Significant experience managing contentious and litigious matters is also a plus.
  • Management experience. The candidate will have managed employees at a law firm or a company.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven communication excellence in the English language with ability to provide clear, correct and concise written and oral advice in a business context is a must for this position. You’ll be asked to establish trusted-advisor relationships with business leaders in key positions of responsibility, and to work effectively and collegially with legal department teammates and all business support functions.
  • Decision making in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment. This position requires skills and capabilities to engage effectively with many internal stakeholders across a diversity of disciplines and areas of expertise. The successful candidate must have a strong desire to navigate through ambiguity, assess and mitigate risk, adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and, most importantly, the ability and willingness to make tough and sound decisions promptly.
  • Company values. You must be committed to Microsoft’s core values, including a commitment to high ethical standards, unquestioned integrity and advancing our company’s accessibility, and diversity and inclusion goals.
  • Education. Successfully completed legal studies at an accredited law school in India or abroad.
  • Travel. This role will require both domestic and international travel.
Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances.

Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Microsoft and the country where you work.

CYBERTALKINDIA II -Batch  Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights in Cyberspace

CYBERTALKINDIA II -Batch  Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights in Cyberspace

CYBERTALKINDIA – NETIZENS CHOICE IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE II-BATCH FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS IN CYBERSPACE

About the course:

The cyberspace cannot be regarded as being fragmented into national jurisdictions, because the cyberspace necessarily operates worldwide. In contrast, intellectual property rights are still territorial in nature: that can be studied in relation to copyright protection in general and of computer software in particular, in relation to patent protection of computer-implemented inventions, and, to a lesser extent, with regard to trademark/domain name protection. However, intellectual property protection has been standardised by international conventions, especially the TRIPS Agreement. This standardisation has also loosened the territoriality principle which governs intellectual property rights. An international convention for the regulation of the cyberspace would have to address the problem of territoriality of intellectual property rights and perhaps consider the establishment of an international organisation for the monitoring and policing of such a convention.

The Online Certificate Course offered by CYBERTALKINDIA – NETIZENS CHOICE, intends to spread awareness among the general public about the basic laws of Patents, Copyright, Trademarks, and Management in IPRs)
