AD-LIB 1.0: NATIONAL EXTEMPORE COMPETITION, 2020: REGISTRATION OPEN: APRIL 04

ABOUT THE EVENT

Communication is the backbone of our society. It allows us to form connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Without communication skills, the ability to progress in the working world and in life, itself, would be nearly impossible.

Public speaking is one of the most important and most dreaded forms of communication. Glossophobia or speech anxiety is the most common fear people have across the globe. Throughout primary school, it is easy to be the student who sits in the back of the classroom and avoids raising his or her hand to dodge such situations.

But in the working world, public speaking is a vital skill to have and to hone. It affects simple, everyday interactions between co-workers, bosses and employees, marketing professionals and clients, etc., and it can have an enormous impact on your career path and your level of success in your industry.

Through the extempore competition, we aim to instil the confidence of fluent and thorough speaking to our people so that they are ever ready to cross the communication barriers in respect to their professional ways.

International Patent Drafting Competition (IPDC) 2017

IPDC_png_v5

IIPRD, along with Khurana & Khurana, Advocates and IP Attorneys (K&K) and its eminent foreign associates, is organizing its Third International Patent Drafting Competition (IPDC) as an earnest initiative with a sincere objective of spreading awareness of patent drafting as a skill across technology domains, and for helping practitioners, colleagues, and stakeholders understand various intricacies of patent drafting as a skill and learn from each other as to nitty-gritties involved therein.

IPDC is a new Initiative by IIPRD and its prestigious Indian and Foreign Associates to bring about greater awareness and respect for Intellectual Property (IP) Issues, particularly Patents, which have, over time, become more relevant to the Indian Ecosystem than ever.

With rising Patent Litigation in India, quality of patents and the scope provided thereby is a crucial aspect that is evaluated/scrutinized by the Courts/Appellate Boards. Furthermore, gone are the times when Indian Companies, Universities, and Individuals were only looking forward to create Defensive Patent Portfolios in India, whereas they are now looking towards the aggressive portfolio with sustainable commercial value. More and more PCT and Convention Applications are being filed each month/year by Indian Applicants with around 30 Indian Prioirty Taking PCT Applications being published each week. Most of these patents are filed with an objective of either Licensing, or Enforcement, or In-House Commercialization, and hence quality of patent drafting including claim drafting, scope of protection accorded, variety of embodiments presented, support in the specification, limitations provided, among other aspects are crucial to Patent Applications.

This initiative of IPDC comes with an earnest effort by IIPRD and its associates and leading sister Law Firm Khurana & Khurana, IP Attorneys (K&K) to promote development of Patent Drafting as a Skill Set and encourage more and more technical people to take up Patent Drafting as a Professional Competency, along with identifying and encouraging Top Patent Drafters.

Modus Operandi of Conducting IPDC

Step 1: On 1st August 2017, IIPRD and K&K, on their websites (www.iiprd.com and www.khuranaandkhurana.com), would put forth Three Invention Disclosures (describing three Inventions), one each in the domain of Electronics/ Hi-Tech, Mechanical, and Chemistry/Pharmaceuticals. The Competition would be active till 20th August 2017, within which timeframe, participants would need to write Complete Patent Applications/Specifications (along with Drawings, if any) .

Step 2: Drafted Patent Application can be sent to Competition@iiprd.com or can be sent in Hard Copy to IIPRD’s, Greater Noida Office. In either way, drafted patent applications should be received by IIPRD on or before 20th August 2017.

Step 3: In order to enable serious participants to submit their specification, a small Participation Fees of INR 1000 (USD 50) is to be submitted by each participant, which can either be paid by means of Bank Transfer or though a DD or a Cheque in favor of “IIPRD”. The Draft should reach IIPRD’s Office by 20th August 2017.

The 10th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition

Samsung Engineering jointly with UN Environment would like to launch “The 10th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition” inviting the youth all over the world to raise awareness on the theme of the upcoming World Environment Day – Connecting People to Nature.

As many of you know, World Environment Day is the United Nations’ flagship day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest global platforms for public outreach celebrated by over a million of people in well over 100 countries. Hosted by Canada, this year’s World Environment Day has the theme Connecting People to Nature, and the slogan, “I’m With Nature.” The idea that underpins this is that in our modern world few of us take enough time away from our daily lives to appreciate and engage with our magnificent natural world. By celebrating World Environment Day surrounded by this beauty, we can rediscover the importance of caring for the environment so that it can care for us.
To commemorate WED and its annual theme, Eco-generation would like to celebrate the bigger and better WED than ever and to call on Tunza Eco-generation members around the world to show their love and affection for our shared natural world with an environmental essay.
The value of nature
In recent decades, scientific advances as well as growing environmental problems such as global warming are helping us to understand the countless ways in which natural systems support our own prosperity and well-being.
For example, the world’s oceans, forests and soils act as vast stores for greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane farmers and fisher-folk harness nature on land and under water to provide us with food scientists develop medicines using genetic material drawn from the millions of species that make up Earth’s astounding biological diversity.
Billions of rural people around the world spend every working day ‘connected to nature’ and appreciate full well their dependence on natural water supplies and how nature provides their livelihoods in the form of fertile soil. They are among the first to suffer when ecosystems are threatened, whether by pollution, climate change or over-exploitation.
Nature’s gifts are often hard to value in monetary terms. Like clean air, they are often taken for granted, at least until they become scarce. However, economists are developing ways to measure the multi-trillion-dollar worth of many so-called ‘ecosystem services’, from insects pollinating fruit trees in the orchards of California to the leisure, health and spiritual benefits of a hike up a Himalayan valley.

United Nations World Wildlife Day Photo Competition Fully Funded to USA, 2017

The United Nations World Wildlife Day 2017 (WWD2017) will be celebrated on 3 March under the theme “Listen to the young voices”. The CITES Secretariat, as the facilitator for the global celebration of the Day, launched today a photo competition for the youth around the world titled “Through young eyes”.

CITES Secretary-General, John E. Scanlon, said: “World Wildlife Day 2017 is a day when we actively engage with the world’s youth in how to better protect the world’s wildlife.  It provides an opportunity for the youth to express themselves and to take actions to support wildlife conservation. The photo competition is one way for the youth to show their passion for wildlife.”

Background

Habitat loss, climate change and poaching are among the most alarming challenges faced by wildlife today. Poaching and trafficking of wildlife is now the most immediate threat to many species, whether charismatic or less known.  The fate of the world’s wildlife will soon be in the hands of the next generation.  The pressing need for enhanced action to ensure the survival of wildlife in its natural habitats must be imparted from generation to generation, and the youth should have the opportunity to communicate the conservation goals to a wider society.

WWD2017 will focus on motivating, engaging and empowering the youth in wildlife conservation issues, responding to a call to better engage with youth  from the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES (CoP17). The photo competition is aimed to raise awareness of wildlife conservation, including the challenges facing many of the world’s endangered species, and to inspire the youth across the globe to add their visions and to use their artistic talents to galvanize other youth and citizens around the world.

What to enter

WWD2017 will be a day to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild animals and plants, to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that wildlife provides to people, and raise awareness of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime, in particular, the role of the youth in this cause. We would like to see expression of all of these through your eyes!

You can either show us the beautiful features of wildlife using your artistic skill or to depict how the youth is actively engaged in the conservation of these amazing species that people are sharing the ecosystem with.

The following submissions will be considered ineligible:

  • Photographs of pets or domestic animals.
  • Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright.

How to enter

All photos must be submitted through the photo submission page on the website of the World Wildlife Day at the URL below:

http://wildlifeday.org/content/submit-your-photo

Entry period

Competition begins: 14 January 2017

Contest Ends: 13 February 2017

Who can enter

Anyone aged between 10 and 24, which is the age range defined by the United Nations as “youth”,  can participate in this competition. Those below the age of 13 will need to have their parents’ permission, and will need to have parents (or a legal guardian) help with their submissions.

Sponsor and prize

The competition is supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

One grand prize winner will be provided free air ticket to travel to New York as well as two-day accommodation in New York to attend a high level event at the United Nations Headquarters on 3 March to celebrate WWD2017.

Judging

Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to wildlife and/or the role of the youth in wildlife protection. Judging will be conducted by a panel composed of representatives from national governments, UN agencies, the civil society and the youth. The Panel will evaluate all valid entries and select 10 finalists and 1 grand prize winner.

All judging decisions are final. Please do not contact us about the status of entries or judging.

The organizer will notify the finalists and winner via the contact information provided at the time of entry.

Specifications

As all photos must be fully original, no entries will be accepted or considered if they are deemed to use in whole or part derivative images which could be considered plagiaristic.

Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified.

Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically in a .jpeg, .jpg, or.png format. Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single “High Dynamic Range” image are acceptable.

Once selected, the winning designer must be able to work with the organizer to adapt the winning design into various formats for the promotion and use the photo.

The maximum size of the file to be uploaded should be no more than 2 megabites at the time of entry. Higher resolutions files will be requested should an entry be selected as a finalist.

If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted.

Legal note

Competition entrants will retain the rights of the photograph. However, by entering the competition, you grant the CITES Secretariat and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed. RTI competition: Win prizes by making a difference to governance in India

iPleaders and onlineRTI are two organizations which are committed to working towards accessible justice and transparency, making a difference in their own gentle way. OnlineRTI is a web portal through which you can file RTIs. iPleaders is working towards making justice more accessible through legal education. This is an opportunity for you to do your bit for bringing more transparency in governance in our beloved country.

In the Indian Transparency Competition, 2017, which is open to anyone including lawyers, law students, RTI activists and all citizens, you have to file an RTI with a government department of your choice. The RTI can be about any issue you are passionate about. After getting the response from the department, a 1500 word article needs to be written about the response you have received, analyzing or explaining the data you have received. The article will be published in your name. On the basis of the article, RTI application and response received, and the impact of the same the winner will get a prize worth INR 15,000.

Further, iPleaders is providing free access to their RTI course (otherwise paid), upon entering the competition. The course has been made by experts with prior hands-on experience in the field. Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be provided to the student. Once you register you can request for a free access to the course by getting a discount code that makes to course free for you. This code will be given to you by Online RTI.com team.

Why should you participate?

The competition enables you to get a first hand experience about dealing with government departments. This is an invaluable skill, irrespective of the professional field you belong to. Adding to that, the choice of the subject, questions and even the department is entirely up to the participant, hence, you can choose any subject you are passionate about.

Apart from that, the knowledge attained by studying the responses can be used at many places, including any academic projects or research papers. The government holds a lot of information, which can be released through RTIs, if only the right questions are asked.

When the common man talks or writes of making a difference in the system, lack of transparency, corruption and so on, that’s where it ends; it ends with the conversation or blog. Everyone wants change, but no one has the patience to work for it. This is a golden chance to change that, and the best part is, this can be done from the comfort of your home!
