Internship Opportunity @ Parliament of India Rajya Sabha.

About:
The Rajya Sabha instituted the Dr. S. At the initiative of the Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, the existing Scheme has been revamped in order to enhance its effectiveness and utility. The revamped scheme has been renamed as ‘Rajya Sabha Research and Study’ (RSRS) Scheme which has three components, namely (a) Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Chair; (b) Rajya Sabha Fellowships and (c) Rajya Sabha Student Engagement Internships. The broad objective of the Scheme is ‘to promote research/empirical/comparative study of the functioning of Parliament and other democratic institutions and analyse their contributions to the country’s socio-economic transformation; and to ensure the utility of the research study to the functioning of Parliament’.

Duration of the chair is for two years, extendable up to one year. The occupant of the Chair is entitled for a grant of Rs.20 lakh plus Rs.2.50 lakh as contingency grant.

Rajya Sabha Fellowships:
The Fellowship is open to scholars who have relevant educational qualification/experience for undertaking the study in line with the objective of the Scheme. Projects assigned (which differ from year to year) will be determined at a time closer to the start of the internship to ensure that they are directly aligned with the department’s work program and, to the extent possible, with the interests of the intern. Research covers a broad spectrum of legal issues as the examples below from previous years illustrate:

Legal Aid Services,West Bengal

WHERE: Kolkata

ABOUT: Legal Aid Services, West Bengal (LASWEB), one of the pioneering legal aid offering civil society organizations in India, empowers the poor and the disadvantaged with varied legal entitlements. Functioning since 1980 as an organic collective of retired judges, practising lawyers and social activists, we have been providing free legal aid, including litigational support and legal literacy, to a wide range of sufferers. The decision to form a non-political and state-level non-governmental organization to serve the cause of legal aid for the poor and vulnerable sections in West Bengal was taken in a convention of intellectuals held in Kolkata on the 12th of September 1980. Beginning with release of non-criminal lunatics from prisons and fighting for prisoners’ rights and custodial justice, we have come a long way. Sitting judges of various high courts, judicial officers serving in the district courts, civil servants and police personnel have always added value to our awareness and advocacy initiatives.
