National Conference On ‘Efficacy of the Indian Economic Policies (Sectoral Analysis)’

St. Xavier’s College is an educational institution, which strives for an intellectual endeavor that focuses on critical
and creative thinking, with the aim of social transformation. It seeks to give an all-rounddevelopment, inculcating
both human and spiritual values.
The Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai is organizing a 2-day National Conference on
`Efficacy of Indian Economic Policies (Sectoral Analysis).’
Objectives:
The Conference aims to have intellectual discourse on issues related to Indian economic policies of various
sectors and provide platform to the researchers for communicating their views on their intellectual standing of
empirical research on Indian economic policies.
The conference will be built around plenary and parallel sessions that allow participants to present original
research, share innovative ideas, and deliberate openly on pressing issues.
We invite scholars and related individuals to contribute papers with rigorous analysis. Papers may be theoretical,
applied, or practical in nature, and will be reviewed by a Scientific Committee. Sessions are tentatively organized
around the following theme areas:
Important Themes:
Theme 1: Agriculture Policies
Theme 2: Industrial Policies
Theme 3: Services Sector (Banking and Financial Services)
Theme 4: Services Sector (Non-financial Services)
In addition to above mentioned themes, following Issues could be considered.
i. The origin of policies like the land reforms, the Industrial Policies, the Licensing Policies, Policies based on the
Stabilization and Structural Adjustment Programmes.
ii. The Amendments / Annulment / Abrogation of policies like MRTPA, FERA, Labour Security Acts.
iii. The introduction of ‘new’ laws that are based on neo-liberal inclinations, like the Competition Act, FEMA,
MGNREGA, Food Security Act, Acts that get the country to engage with FDIs and FIIs.
An extended abstract of 500 wordsshould state the objectives, data, methodology, preliminary findings and policy
recommendations of the paper. Authors are requested to provide detailed contact information, a series of keywords
that best characterizes the paper, and the Theme number in which the author feels the paper would most
appropriately be placed.

Internship at Debt RecoveryTribunal ,10 k stipend

The Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) enforces provisions of the Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions (RDDBFI) Act, 1993 and also Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interests (SARFAESI) Act, 2002.

Under the Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions (RDDBFI) Act, 1993 banks approach the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) whereas, under Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interests (SARFAESI) Act, 2002 borrowers, guarantors, and other any other person aggrieved by any action of the bank can approach the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT).

Debts Recovery Tribunal are located across the country. Some cities have more than one Debts Recovery Tribunals. New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai have three Debts Recovery Tribunals. The general terms and conditions for Legal Internship

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF INTERNSHIPLegal Interns can choose place of their internship either at our Delhi Office or at our Bangalore Office.Legal Internship is generally given to undergraduate students of 5th or 6th sem (3 –year law course) or 8th sem and above (5 year Law course).

Undergraduate Legal Interns can seek short term legal internship (30 to 60 days).

Graduate Legal Interns can take long term internship (180 days)

Legal Internship in BankDRT is a very serious affair. BankDRT invests lot of time, money and energy on the Legal Interns and mentors them seriously in the filed of Banking Law, more particularly, debt recovery and associated Laws. Therefore Legal Interns should not apply and/or accept offers of Legal Internship if they are not serious about their physical and mental stamina to work in this rigorous filed.

National Conference on Economics & Development, NCED 2014 will be held at India International Centre Annexe, New Delhi on 21 December 2014. KN RAJ Fellowships: Call for Applications

TEACHING RESOURCES GRANT FOR TEACHERS IN ECONOMICS:

Fellowship Programme: During the term of the fellowship the awardee will have access to both library and computing resources at the Centre and, if she or he so chooses, may be mentored by one of the CDS faculty. Further, subject to availability, the awardees will also be provided with office space.

Who can apply: Teachers in economics from any of the universities or recognized secondary schools in India. Although all branches of economics are welcome, preference will be given to those wanting to prepare teaching resources in the areas of Economic Theory, Econometrics, the Indian Economy and International Economics.

Other things remaining the same, academics and researchers based in the state of Kerala will be given preference in the award of these fellowships. The selection committee reserves the right to invite teachers for the award of these fellowships.

Duration: They may spend up to a period of one month at the Centre.

Allowance: The fellowship will consists of a travel grant from the place of residence to CDS, Trivandrum and back, rent-free accommodation and boarding at CDS guest house/hostel for a period of thirty days and a grant of up to Rs. 10,000 for purchasing textbooks and other teaching resources.

Outcome: At the end of the award period, the awardee is expected to produce teaching resources such as lecture notes.

Number of fellowships available: 5 (per calendar year)

Application procedure: Twice a year (in January and August) on the basis of an online application. The selected persons may consider availing the fellowship any time within 6 months from the date of the award. For instance, if the date of award is 1 January, she or he may choose to avail of the fellowship for any one month before June 30 of that year.

RESEARCH GRANT FOR RESEARCHERS IN ECONOMICS

Who can apply: Researchers in Economics from any of the affiliated colleges or university departments, journalists and development practitioners from India

Fellowship Programme: They may spend up to a period of three months at the Centre to write a chapter of their doctoral dissertation, prepare a research paper, or complete a book. During the term of the Fellowship the awardee will have access to both library and computing resources at the Centre, and if she or he chooses may be mentored by one of the CDS faculty. Further, the awardees will also be provided with office space.

Allowance: The fellowship consists of a travel grant from the place of residence to Thiruvananthapuram and back, rent-free accommodation and boarding at the CDS guest house/ hostel for a period of ninety days and a grant of up to Rs. 15000 per awardee for purchasing books and other research material.

Number of fellowships available: Five (per calendar year)

Application procedure: Twice a year (in January and August) on the basis of an online application. The selected persons may consider availing the fellowship any time within 6 months from the date of the award. For instance, if the date of award is 1 January, she or he may choose to avail of the fellowship for any one month before June 30 of that year.

Authors, who fulfill the eligibility requirements (doctors no more than 2 years from the completion of their academic education) are also invited to enter the competition to win the Goran Skogh Award for the most promising paper presented at the EALE Conference. The winner will receive €1000.

Poster sessions will also be organized during the conference.
