National Conference On ‘Efficacy of the Indian Economic Policies (Sectoral Analysis)’

St. Xavier’s College is an educational institution, which strives for an intellectual endeavor that focuses on critical
and creative thinking, with the aim of social transformation. It seeks to give an all-rounddevelopment, inculcating
both human and spiritual values.
The Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai is organizing a 2-day National Conference on
`Efficacy of Indian Economic Policies (Sectoral Analysis).’
Objectives:
The Conference aims to have intellectual discourse on issues related to Indian economic policies of various
sectors and provide platform to the researchers for communicating their views on their intellectual standing of
empirical research on Indian economic policies.
The conference will be built around plenary and parallel sessions that allow participants to present original
research, share innovative ideas, and deliberate openly on pressing issues.
We invite scholars and related individuals to contribute papers with rigorous analysis. Papers may be theoretical,
applied, or practical in nature, and will be reviewed by a Scientific Committee. Sessions are tentatively organized
around the following theme areas:
Important Themes:
Theme 1: Agriculture Policies
Theme 2: Industrial Policies
Theme 3: Services Sector (Banking and Financial Services)
Theme 4: Services Sector (Non-financial Services)
In addition to above mentioned themes, following Issues could be considered.
i. The origin of policies like the land reforms, the Industrial Policies, the Licensing Policies, Policies based on the
Stabilization and Structural Adjustment Programmes.
ii. The Amendments / Annulment / Abrogation of policies like MRTPA, FERA, Labour Security Acts.
iii. The introduction of ‘new’ laws that are based on neo-liberal inclinations, like the Competition Act, FEMA,
MGNREGA, Food Security Act, Acts that get the country to engage with FDIs and FIIs.
An extended abstract of 500 wordsshould state the objectives, data, methodology, preliminary findings and policy
recommendations of the paper. Authors are requested to provide detailed contact information, a series of keywords
that best characterizes the paper, and the Theme number in which the author feels the paper would most
appropriately be placed.

Abstract submission: 30th October 2014
Acceptance of Abstract: 15th November 2014
Full Paper Submission: 15th December 2014 (along with Registration)
